It is based on the 14900K, but offers higher frequencies. In boost mode, it can reach 6.2 GHz. However, it turns out that this CPU is a monster in terms of power consumption and heating. One overclocker, Pakhtunov, has made some before and after delid comparisons.
To carry out his tests, the overclocker used a consumer cooling system: an AIO. Indeed, the kit used was none other than a DeepCool LS720 SE, an AIO available from Amazon for €110.
In fact, with the IHS in place and on Cinebench R24, the clocker read a P-Core boost frequency of 5.90 GHz. Meanwhile, the temperature stabilized at 85°C, while power consumption was 376W. Once delid (IHS removed) and after applying liquid metal, the temperature dropped to 75°C, while power consumption fell to 366W.
On Y-Cruncher, a more demanding benchmark, same scenario. The CPU boosted to 5.9 GHz on its P-Cores, while the temperature reached 89°C for a consumption of 432W with IHS, so stock. After delid, the temperature fell back to 82°C, while power consumption stabilized at 409W.
