Over the last couple of years, dog food recalls have popped up in headlines more than usual.
The pet food brand itself can voluntarily initiate recalls. However, in most cases, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the regulatory body that oversees the quality and safety of pet foods in the United States, calls for recalls in response to complaints by consumers and veterinarians.

If you often get your dog food from Pedigree, you’re probably wondering whether the brand has announced a recall in 2024. Here’s what you should know.

Pedigree has indeed issued a recall in 2024. On May 17, Mars Petcare published an official statement informing its customers of the same. The brand recalled 315 Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food bags.

On May 18, the FDA also published a report regarding the same, with particulars about the affected batch. However, both the company and FDA assure there are no reports of pet sicknesses or deaths linked to the dog food brand.

Pedigree’s last dog food recall occurred in 2014 for a reason very similar to the 2024 recall. The brand voluntarily recalled several batches of its Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food after establishing the presence of metal fragments in the product.

Metal fragments pose a significant danger to dogs. They can pierce an animal’s intestinal lining and also cause obstruction. Additionally, a dog might suffer from poisoning due to the heavy chemicals in the metal fragments.
