Magewell Expands USB Capture Line with New 4K Pro Model

Introducing the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro

Magewell’s USB Capture family has long been the gold standard for professional video capture devices. Known for reliability and ease of use, they are a favorite for live streaming, video conferencing, medical imaging, and more. The company has now unveiled a new model, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro, capable of capturing video sources up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

Key Features of the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro builds on the foundation laid by the popular USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus model. Leveraging 20 Gbps USB transfer performance, it enables the capture of 4K video at higher frame rates and color precision. When connected to a host computer with a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, it can capture HDMI inputs up to 4096×2160 at 60 fps with 4:4:4 chroma fidelity. Additionally, it is compatible with lesser-performance USB 3.2, USB 3.1, and USB 3.0 interfaces for capturing lower video signals.

Plug-and-Play Convenience and Advanced Features

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro features driver-free setup and automatic input signal detection for true plug-and-play operation, supporting Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome operating systems. An SDK is available for third-party developers, enabling them to leverage unique features like capturing 10-bit high dynamic range (HDR) signals in their software. The device supports embedded HDMI audio, an analog audio input, and a stereo headphone output.

Additional Enhancements and Availability

Built-in FPGA-based video processing ensures high-quality deinterlacing, up/down conversion, and image controls while maximizing host system CPU availability. Magewell’s free USB Capture Utility software allows users to configure capture parameters, upgrade firmware, and more. The latest version also supports earlier models and adds new features, including customizable device names and the ability to toggle audio capabilities.

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro will be demonstrated alongside other Magewell innovations at the IBC2024 exhibition in Amsterdam from September 13 to 16. This new device highlights Magewell’s commitment to advancing video capture technology and enabling new use cases in live production and immersive presentations.
