Overview of the MX11 Family

Toshiba Electronic Components Taiwan Corporation (Toshiba) has unveiled the MX11 family of helium-sealed high-capacity hard disk drives (HDDs). This innovative family caters to the growing demands for data storage efficiency and reliability in today’s data-centric environment. The MX11 family features two distinct series: the MG11 series and the MA11 series, each offering varying capacities and recording technologies.

Capacity and Technology

The MG11 series of the MX11 family provides impressive storage capacities of up to 24 terabytes (TB) utilizing Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) technology. In contrast, the MA11 series pushes the boundaries further, offering capacities up to 28 TB through Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR). By employing advanced magnetic recording techniques, these HDDs are engineered to meet critical operational challenges, particularly aimed at managing escalating data volumes while effectively controlling costs.

Performance Features

Both the MG11 and MA11 series leverage a robust 10-disk, helium-sealed design with a standard 3.5-inch form factor and 7,200 RPM speed, optimizing operational efficiency. Additionally, these drives incorporate Toshiba’s innovative Flux Control Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR) technology, which significantly enhances performance. The MX11 family is designed for continuous operation, boasting a workload rating of 550 TB per year, a mean time to failure (MTTF) of 2.5 million hours, and an annualized failure rate (AFR) of just 0.35%. These specifications ensure trustworthy reliability and sustained performance for demanding workloads.
