Introduction to Cyberpunk 2077’s Performance Challenges
Cyberpunk 2077 has faced considerable challenges regarding its performance on various platforms since its launch. Despite numerous updates aimed at improving the game’s stability and graphics, players have often struggled to achieve an optimal gameplay experience. However, with the recent release of Patch 2.13 on September 12, significant advancements have been made.
Patch 2.13: Key Improvements
The latest update not only enhances the base game but also optimizes the Phantom Liberty expansion. A notable feature introduced with this patch is AMD’s Fidelity FX Super Resolution (FSR) 3, which incorporates advanced frame generation technology. This addition comes almost a year after the game integrated support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5, representing a substantial leap in available graphical enhancements.
Performance Boost with FSR 3
AMD claims that the incorporation of FSR 3 and its frame generation capability can potentially increase frame rates by upwards of 300% at higher resolutions, while maintaining visual fidelity compared to earlier versions. It is important to note, however, that performance improvements may vary; AMD’s own analysis suggests a more realistic boost of around 78% with its Fluid Motion Frames 2 technology. This update significantly enhances the feasibility of playing Cyberpunk 2077 on portable devices like the Steam Deck, which does not have access to AMD’s fluid motion capabilities as their Windows counterparts do.
