Introduction to the New Drivers
Today, AMD released the latest Ryzen chipset drivers version 6.07.22.037 WHQL. These drivers are essential for notebooks powered by the latest Ryzen AI 300 series “Strix Point” processors. They provide driver support for the various System on Chip (SoC) interfaces and are crucial for optimal performance and compatibility.
New Features and Enhancements
The new drivers are indispensable for exposing the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) of Ryzen 7000 “Phoenix,” Ryzen 8000 “Hawk Point,” Ryzen 8000G desktop APUs, and Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” processors. This functionality allows Windows Device Manager to classify these NPUs as dedicated devices. Additionally, the drivers enable Windows 11 to display real-time NPU utilization, memory footprint, and driver version information in the task manager.
Component Updates and Program Support
The driver package includes updates for various components such as GPIO, PSP, PPM, and the USB4 host controller. It also adds program support for several SoC interfaces, including SMBus, Hetero, and RCEC. The added device drivers include the AMD PMF Ryzen AI 300 series driver, PT GPIO driver, AMD PSP driver, AMD PPM provisioning file driver, AMD USB4 CM driver, AMD AMS mailbox driver, and the AMD SFH1.1 driver.
Known Issues and Resolutions
While this release brings numerous improvements, there are a few known issues. Some driver names on non-English OS versions may appear in English, and the uninstall summary may incorrectly show the uninstall status as failed. Additionally, occasionally, the Ryzen PPKG may not install or upgrade successfully. Despite these issues, the benefits of the new drivers make them a worthy update.
