Introduction to New Embedded Computing Solutions
Embedded computing pioneer AAEON has recently introduced two new single-board computers, the Pico-ASL4 and GENE-ASL6. Both boards are powered by the latest Intel Atom x7000RE processor series specifically designed for edge computing applications. These compact, high-performance boards promise to revolutionize sectors like smart transportation and digital signage.
Pico-ASL4: Compact and Versatile
The Pico-ASL4 is built on the 2.5″ Pico-ITX form factor and offers extensive onboard options including dual LAN ports and six USB ports. It stands out for its innovative design that replaces the standard heat spreader with a slim, all-in-one heatsink, allowing for a low-profile yet effective thermal management. With Intel Time Coordinated Computing and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), it is an ideal choice for latency-sensitive workloads.
In terms of connectivity, the Pico-ASL4 features dual LAN ports (2.5GbE and 1GbE), dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, as well as internal connectors for serial communication and GPIO. Display capabilities are enhanced by both LVDS and optional eDP 1.4, supporting two simultaneous displays.
GENE-ASL6: Designed for Edge Gateway and Digital Signage
On the other hand, the GENE-ASL6, a 3.5″ subcompact board, is tailored for edge gateway and digital signage applications. It supports three simultaneous displays through its HDMI, VGA, and LVDS interfaces, and features audio options including line-in, line-out, and microphone. This board is particularly suited for smart kiosks, thanks to its optional TPM 2.0 and CPU-native encryption capabilities.
The GENE-ASL6 excels in connectivity with three LAN ports (each operating at 2.5 GbE), advanced serial communication through four COM connectors, and extensive expansion options including M.2 2230 E-key, M.2 3052 B-key, and a full-size mSATA/mPCIe slot. These options enable integration with wireless communication modules for Wi-Fi and 5G as well as high-speed storage solutions. The board also features optimized fanless heat dissipation, supporting an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
Availability and Detailed Specifications
Both Pico-ASL4 and GENE-ASL6 are now available for pre-order on AAEON’s eShop. Detailed specifications and further information on both boards can be found on their respective product pages on the AAEON website. These new offerings are poised to provide robust and efficient solutions for a variety of edge computing applications.
