After a month with Surfshark as my daily VPN, the biggest takeaway isn’t that it’s the fastest or the most advanced.

It’s that it’s easy to live with.

And that turns out to matter more than you’d expect.

Setup Is Simple—Almost Too Simple

Getting started took a couple of minutes. Install, log in, hit connect. That’s it.

There are deeper settings—protocols, MultiHop, ad blocking—but you don’t have to touch any of them to get going. Compared to something like NordVPN, which feels a bit more feature-heavy, Surfshark is more relaxed out of the box.

It doesn’t try to impress you.

It just works.

Daily Use: You Stop Thinking About It

Most of my time with Surfshark was pretty uneventful—which is a good thing.

Browsing felt normal. Streaming worked. Downloads didn’t slow to a crawl. I used it across a laptop, phone, and smart TV without hitting any limits (which, thanks to unlimited devices, isn’t a concern here).

That’s where Surfshark stands out.

You don’t manage it—you forget it’s there.

Speed: Good, Not Exceptional

Speed is where you start to notice the difference compared to premium options.

On nearby servers, Surfshark is fast enough that you won’t care. But on longer connections—like connecting from Asia to the US—it can slow down and occasionally require switching servers.

Side by side, ExpressVPN feels more consistent, and NordVPN usually edges ahead in raw speed.

Surfshark isn’t slow.

It’s just not leading.

Streaming: Mostly Smooth, Occasionally Annoying

Streaming was one of the main reasons I tested Surfshark.

For the most part, it worked well—Netflix, YouTube, and other platforms loaded without issues. But every now and then, I’d hit a blocked server and need to try another.

It’s not a dealbreaker.

But it’s not completely seamless either.

Features: Nice Extras, But Not Essential

Surfshark comes with a bunch of extras—CleanWeb (ad blocking), MultiHop, and even optional antivirus tools.

I tried them.

And then mostly ignored them.

The core VPN experience is what you’ll use 90% of the time. The rest feels like bonus features rather than must-haves.

The Unlimited Device Factor

This is the feature that quietly changes everything.

I installed Surfshark on every device I own without thinking about limits. That includes sharing it with family, which would normally require a higher-tier plan on other VPNs.

With NordVPN or ExpressVPN, you eventually hit a ceiling.

With Surfshark, you don’t.

Price vs Experience

Surfshark’s pricing is a big part of its appeal.

It’s noticeably cheaper than NordVPN and ExpressVPN on long-term plans, and when you combine that with unlimited devices, the value becomes hard to ignore.

The trade-off is subtle: slightly less consistency, slightly less polish.

For many people, that’s an easy trade.

Pros and Cons After 30 Days

Pros

  • Unlimited device connections (genuinely useful)
  • Easy to use with minimal setup
  • Good everyday performance
  • Strong value for the price

Cons

  • Not the fastest VPN available
  • Occasional server switching for streaming
  • Extra features feel secondary

Who It’s For (and Who It’s Not)

Surfshark makes the most sense if you want one VPN for everything—your devices, your household, your streaming setup—without spending too much.

It’s also a good fit if you don’t want to constantly tweak settings.

But if you care about squeezing out maximum speed or want the most consistent performance possible, you’ll likely notice the difference compared to higher-end options.

Final Verdict

After 30 days, Surfshark feels less like a “premium tool” and more like a practical one.

It doesn’t try to win every category. Instead, it delivers a solid, reliable experience at a price that makes sense—and that’s exactly why it’s growing so fast.

Recommendation:
If you want a VPN that works across all your devices, performs well enough for daily use, and doesn’t cost a lot, Surfshark is an easy yes. Just don’t expect top-tier performance in every scenario—it’s built for balance, not perfection.
