Kongregate was founded way back in 2006 and has been offering up a number of web games since then, before moving into publishing. Most of the games that they hosted were in Adobe Flash or HTML5 and Javascript, but they moved into publishing mobile games as well as PC and console titles. New submissions stopped in 2020 but the website featured over 120,000 games and over 30 mobile games.
The Monumental deal involves combining Monumental and Kongregate in exchange for a 30% stake in the newly formed Monumental-controlled company. The deal involves over 40 mobile titles and expands Monumental/s capacity in the mobile space. “Monumental is poised to leverage the extensive experience in traditional and mobile gaming that the Kongregate team brings.
Monumental was formed back in 2020, and one of the reasons many MMO fans may have heard of the company was its acquisition of Crowfall from ArtCraft back in December 2021. Crowfall’s servers were shut down in late 2022, with the team painting this not as an end, but as the start of the game’s new beginning.
