Transforming a passive RTX 3080 with a copper bar and 10 fans.

On Reddit, you can come across some completely “crazy” projects related to the PC world. One user presents his attempt to create a completely passive RTX 3080. Clearly, it doesn’t look like much!

To do without fans, the user in question uses a huge copper bar. In terms of dimensions, the latter measures 2″ x 3″ x 12″ (5.08 (W) x 7.62 (L) x 30.48 (D) cm). Clearly, the weight is not communicated, but it must weigh at least a dead donkey.

In order to add surface area for exchange with the air, he adds a total of 10 fans to this same copper bar. Although the reference numbers of these fans are not known, we can guess that they are 92 mm models with four copper heat pipes, except for those mounted at the end with six heat pipes. Of course, the VRAMs are also cooled by copper heatsinks.

In the meantime, the bar seems simply to sit as it is on the graphics card… With support shims. At the same time, given the size and weight of the thing, it would be a shame to damage the card.

No published results yet, but we’re curious to see how it turns out. Although, in our opinion, the copper bar is perhaps a little too large to transfer heat efficiently to the fans mounted on it.
