Introduction to MSI’s New Graphics Cards

MSI has recently joined forces with Asus and Galax to quietly introduce their new GeForce RTX 4070 graphics cards, featuring 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory. This new offering replaces the standard 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory found in the original RTX 4070, providing an opportunity for gamers and content creators seeking quality performance without breaking the bank.

Model Variants and Specifications

The launched graphics cards are part of MSI’s value custom-design Ventus series. There are four distinct models available: the compact Ventus 2X, the larger Ventus 3X, and their respective OC (overclocked) variants. Each card is marked with the “e1” extension in its model number, indicating the GDDR6 memory type. For instance, the MSI RTX 4070 Ventus 2X e1 adequately displays this distinction.

Cooling Solutions and Performance Metrics

The Ventus 2X is designed with a dual-fan cooling solution, measuring 24.2 cm in length and 12.5 cm in height, maintaining a strict 2-slot thickness. In terms of performance, the regular variant offers a GPU boost frequency of 2475 MHz, while the OC version achieves 2505 MHz. Meanwhile, the Ventus 3X features a triple-fan solution that spans 30.8 cm in length and 12 cm in height, with similar performance metrics to its smaller counterpart.

Notably, the performance testing revealed a mere 1-2% difference between the GDDR6 version and the original RTX 4070 at 1440p resolution. While both models launch at similar price points as the original RTX 4070, the switch to more affordable memory types could potentially allow Nvidia partners to lower street prices in the future.
